IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE JOHNSTON SCHOOL DEPARTMENT
Join us and Honor the sesquicentennial of the Civil War. Battery B, 1ST Rhode Island Light Artillery Unit will be providing a living memorial of the sacrifice of Rhode Islanders during the first year of the Civil War. During the event, Battery B will discuss the beginning of the Civil War, the Rhode Island “call for volunteers”, Battery B’s dispatch to Washington and the Battle of Balls Bluff. Battery B will fire a cannon used in the Civil War and reenact life during that era.
In addition the Gloucester Light Brigade, an American Revolutionary War Reenactment group, will be on hand providing a glimpse into the lives of those individuals that played a role in the American Revolution and will present a re-enactment of one of the battles they were involved with. Joining the Gloucester Light Brigade will be their fifes and drums unit.
